So the culmination of all our work over the past 9 weeks have produced this genre-defying action/adventure game that features mechanics that are top-class. We have dedicated so many hours and poured our heart and soul to release to you all one of our greatest achievements.
Our ambition was big from the start. And we had the team to handle that too. Even though the scope was big, we were able to incorporate all the mechanics we had planned. The only thing I would say the game lacked was polish due to the unfortunate 9-week term. We believe we could have delivered a polished level 2 and 3 as well as fixed the performance issues in Level 3 too.
For this week, I had to start working from Wednesday since this was the finals week. However, I spent all the time, without any break to fix any potential issues in the game. I added the new models and textures from the art team into the game as well as transferring the requisite features over to the new Level 2.
I actually did LOD the asteroids in Level 1 and 3 but their implementation into the game was taking too long as my PC is extremely slow so can't handle the combining and separating of meshes that well. I was able to export but again due to time constraints, I wasn't able to incorporate it into the game. I changed the colors of the asteroids in Level 1 and 2, However Level 3 asteroids couldn't be changed in time as we had to overhaul the level design as the scene was too busy. Which is why the LODs were unfortunately discarded and new ones couldn't be made in time.
I spent most of my time fixing as many bugs as possible as well as held team meetings to ensure everything was flowing on track. Funnily enough, I think we spent a long time looking at Unity's loading message. The performance issues are pretty apparent and I did tackle it as much as possible but since we added in the new asteroids, those work were unfortunately removed. If I was given two more weeks, I believe I could reduce the game size as well as make it extremely performant. It just requires a bit of spring cleaning.
All in all, this was a great feat that we were able to accomplish. Hats off to the entire team and I feel proud to have managed this wonderful array of programmers and artists over the past two quarters. EXCELSIOR!
