Practice Makes Perfect

Meeting: 1 hour

Studying Models and Concept Art: 2 hours

Sketches: 2 hours

Total Time: 5 hours

This week, I continued the things that I discussed with Ivan previously and wanted to continue working on the narrative. We're still talking about specific cutscenes that will take place, but as I had a storyboard already created for the intro, I wanted to refine the artwork that I had already put out. My style of art is definitely different than Ivan's, so I wanted to try and create a cohesive mix or something similar to the concept art that he put out for the cutscenes. I also wanted to make the character and artwork similar to the 3D models so there isn't a huge disconnect from the in-game art to the cutscenes while also attempting to make them more detailed.

Since this artwork isn't mine and the style isn't mine, I went back and looked at David's models and a lot of Ivan's concept arts while practicing redrawing the characters. I also took the time to refine anatomy so that I could make more interesting shots for the cutscenes with different angles.

I picked some shots from the storyboard I made and wanted to make them on bigger scales while also implementing the character instead of a placeholder. I redrew two a couple times, trying to create basic sketches and outlines that I can bring into Photoshop, digitalize, and color later on while also practicing artwork for the game.

Below is a shot where I want to show war torn space in the background while there is a commercial of the shipping service in the foreground. I plan on implementing models and artwork from the game into this scene when it is more finalized. There is also a drawing of the main character where I'm working on trying to find a way to keep him looking humorous.
