Void Gaming has poured their hearts out on the final crunch for the beta. Suffice to say, we are all very satisfied with what we have on our hands. The team worked tirelessly to integrate the final elements for the beta like a new player model, station hull, making the player movement smoother, etc.
This week, I integrated all the new models and code into the scenes. I also updated the ControlsScene to include icons of the keys as suggested. I also updated the scenes based on playtesting data and in-class feedback like moving the health bar to the top-left, using a red vignette to indicate damage on screen, balancing the health mechanic between enemies and player.
I also added the much needed Next Level and Game Over GUI for the game.
The materials were updated as well like for the asteroids and the hull. Additional VFX were also added in the game to make it more dynamic.
I also added a new HUD manager that utilizes waypoints to locate the portal and package for the player if needed. Since HUDs are particularly complicated, I used this YouTube tutorial to guide me into integrating it into the game.
Finally, I added a new shader for the death barrier, replacing the old warning animation so that the gameplay does not become too intrusive.
Hours worked this week: ~28.
